About our House Sitters Lifestyle.

portrait of a house sitter coupleWe are Tom & Lin, the 'housem8s'. We both decided to leave our conventional lives behind in 2002; soon after that we became full time house sitters quite unintentionally! Having 'downshifted', Tom became a freelance writer and web designer. Lin left behind working in retail for a 'career break', which lasted longer than anticipated!

Because we had become self employed house sitters, we realised that it didn't matter where we lived, as long as we had access to the internet. We started looking after our friends' houses and pets whilst they were absent on holiday. Fairly soon our friends' friends were enquiring after our house sitter services! We recognised an opportunity to live an interesting house sitter lifestyle, and now we're on the road as often as we're at home!

House sitters and their clients enjoy a mutually rewarding relationship!

As professional house sitters we carry a great responsibility, we often house sit in quite large, rural, high-value properties for discerning, sometimes demanding clients. We can't go away at night, we don't leave the property unattended for more than three hours at a time, and there is nearly always an element of dog-sitting and cat-sitting in with the deal.

Our pet and house sitters services are provided with good grace. We enjoy life in some very pleasant places and the utility bills are met by the client. Above all, we only house sit for those who understand that the spirit of our agreement is based on a mutual trust and respect. The relationship between house sitter and home owner should always be equitable, never exploitative from either party. We provide a rock solid reliability guarantee and we treat our clients' homes with the utmost care; we look after any pets as if they were our own.

In turn we expect to receive a remuneration which covers our subsistence, and professional pet sitter expenses, such as running a bona-fide limited house sitting company, house sitters liability insurance, and the onerous cost of travel and running a vehicle. Not bad for £36 a day all-in and NO VAT!! One of our clients once said that we were just "ordinary people living an extraordinary life". I like that idea.

We travel as house sitters all around the UK and sometimes Europe, why not take a look at our house sitters CV's, our house sitter locations page, or check out our house sitter photo gallery:

House Sitters who have never let down a client.

We are aware that some potential clients feel that because there are only two of us, in the event of an emergency, the client would be left without a house sitter. It's never happened yet.

Let us put your minds at rest:

We have personal contacts at several house sitting agencies. In the event of a dire emergency, we could call upon another professional house sitter from one of these agencies; but in order for that to happen, both of us would have to become seriously ill or injured. Any extra costs should be covered by insurance.

To give you an idea of our dedication, we have lost three of our parents in one year, and although the funerals twice coincided with house sit assignments, one of us stayed at our post.

Remember, it's like booking a holiday - once you have reserved our house sitters services the arrangement is set in stone; we never let people down because our reputation is incredibly important. Take a look at our legal page

A client list of over 50 people of good standing in the community speaks volumes! Infact, many clients now book their holidays around our house and pet sitter availability calendar!
